Strato's answer:
Hello Cathy, thanks for asking. I wish you "καλή λευτεριά"!
When we cut an aloe leaf to process and manufacture some products from this, we see that this consists of three parts:
- The external hard green rind,
- Just below the crust a thin layer of yellow sticky residues called latex, and finally
- The gel which is a transparent jelly-like substance which is called aloe vera inner leaf gel.
Aloe latex is known as a powerful laxative, because it prevents water absorption in the intestine, resulting in bowel contents to move more quickly.
Large doses of Aloe Latex are known to cause bloody diarrhea and kidney damage.
Aloe Latex is not safe and should not be consumed during pregnancy or nursing mothers and even in healthy people.
Its use is limited to people with chronic constipation and other such special conditions.
By contrast, pure aloe vera inner leaf gel does not have these effects and is safe for use during pregnancy.
The unique natural synthesis of aloe vera gel contains over 75 nutrients and 200 other compounds including 20 minerals, 18 amino acids and 12 vitamins which act synergistically enhancing the beneficial properties of each component and neutralizing any adverse effects.
The consumption of aloe vera gel complements and enhances the nutrition of a pregnant woman and consequently fetal growth and the continued use after giving birth encourages milk production.
In addition pregnant women who consume aloe vera gel have less nausea.
Some aloe vera manufacturing companies manufacture aloe vera products smashing the entire leaf in order to contain gel and latex.
Others manufacture products from aloe latex and others only from the aloe vera inner leaf gel.
Forever Living Products, the largest producer of aloe vera in the world (80% of world production) manufacture the Aloe Vera Gel and all their other aloe vera barbadensis Miller products only from just the pure inner gel of the aloe plant's leaf and recycle the rind of the leaves as fertilizer for the plants in their plantations.
