Aloe barbadensis Miller Plant
- Hello, I want to buy an aloe plant and especially Aloe barbadensis Miller plant ...
... Where can I get it and be reassured that it is the real one and not one of the 239 other cousins?
Strato's answer:
Hi Nassos, thank you for your trust in AloeveraChangeslives! I notice a recent increase in questions about purchasing of aloe plants and this means that more and more people are interested in a more personal relationship with Aloe Vera. This of course is so good because increasingly fewer people will depend on medicines and side effects.
Aloe Vera means true aloe
As mentioned by you, we must choose Aloe barbadensis Miller and not some other variety, if we are to enjoy health benefits from our aloe plants. We must know that Aloe barbadensis Miller is the only one called Aloe Vera. Other aloe varieties have other names. So, the name says it all: Aloe Vera means true aloe!
Nassos, I don't know any particular plant nursery that sells aloe barbadensis miller plants to recommend. I can only suggest - the same I would have done myself too - you can go to several plant nursery and ask them to show you aloe barbadensis miller plants.
So, if you see how is several different plants, you will be able personally to discern the real plants and the same time you have also make a little market research about the prices and the available plants.
Description of Aloe barbadensis Miller plants
In general, the plants reach about 60 to 100 cm high and bloom in summer. Leaves are developed around a common point, are juicy, thick and fleshy, green to gray-green color and may have white spots on upper and lower surface. Their perimeter is serrated with small white spines.
Flowers come from the center of the plant and they are hanging from a single up to 90 cm tall shoot. They have tubular form, with a yellow - red crown that reaches around 2 to 3 cm. The photos above shows mature (3 - 4 years) Aloe barbadensis Miller plants.
